Bonnie has always had a creative side to her that she’s struggled to piece together. When the opportunity came up to head the finance team of an interior architect company she thought this is perfect – put her finance skills to work in a creative environment.
This resulted in many headaches for her husband as she spent multiple hours browsing fabrics, accessories and furniture. A regular comment when seeing an advert ‘why can’t I just buy that whole look?’ but often there are only selected items that are actually for sale in the adverts.
The next hurdle – buying & returning items as they just don’t look right in her home (although they looked lovely in the shop). She just couldn’t visualise all the pieces together. OR finding the perfect cushion and then not knowing what other cushion to pair with it. Do you choose multiple varied sizes? Varied patterns? All the same size? All the same fabric in varied colours?
So why not hire an interior decorator? In South Africa there is a perception that interior decorators are for the wealthy and you need to have a big budget set aside. Bonnie wanted to break this perception and make dream spaces affordable and accessible to South Africans.
Working at the interior architect company exposed her to so many amazing, talented individuals in the designer world, as well as extremely talented homegrown suppliers. Spruce was born to connect these designers and suppliers with you and me and give us amazing spaces in our home or offices, all within our budget.
